The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is 53 miles long, and 1,730 to 2,700 feet deep. The Gunnison River cuts the Canyon deeper and deeper each year. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison was formed by the Gunnison River over a period of 2 million years. The walls of the Black Canyon were also carved by the Gunnison River, and were made of hard, Precambrian rock. This canyon is famous because of its hiking trails, hostory of the rock walls, and more!
